I am really not a historian, but in searching family tree am trying to find street map or pictures of Alma Place. I understand it was where Robbs car park is now. Can anyone point me in the direction of resources which may turn up some information?

I can’t help with a photograph, but there is an 1863 O.S. plan which shows an Alma Court in the approximate position you describe.

You can see it at https://www.old-maps.co.uk/#/Map/393680/564025/13/101246 If it comes up with the message ‘subscribe to view mapping at this zoom level’ don’t give up, just click on the – sign top left of the map until it opens. If it opens with a blue square over part of the map click on the icon top right (under ‘contact us) which shows a dot within a square. Clicking on ‘Enlarge view’ for any of the subsequent maps shown in the panel on the left will show the same location through time.

You can also see Alma Court on this 1660 O.S. map. https://communities.northumberland.gov.uk/005069FS.htm

Thankyou so much! The maps are fascinating. It is good to be able to see the location and add to people’s stories that way.

Apologies for my typo. The second map I referred to was of course dated 1860, not 1660!
