I am writing to you today in the hope you might be able to offer some guidance. My family and I live in a renovated farm building and are trying to piece together its history.
Here are the details we have so far:
Location: The farm is officially in Northumberland, but it is located on the boundary with County Durham, which is the River Derwent. We have a Durham postcode.
Name: The property is now called “Eddisbridge Farm North,” but we believe it was originally known simply as “Eddisbridge Farm.”
Features: There are visible remnants of what we believe to be a gin gang (horse engine house) on the property.
Potential Links: We have heard anecdotal talk that the farm may have once been part of the historic Axwell Hall estate.
Any information, historical records, old maps, or even pointers on where we could search next would be hugely appreciated.
I know we can’t upload images directly onto this forum so I’ve added a page to my website – TWDA Hexham Web Design – https://twda.co.uk/twda-hexham-web-design-house-age/
Thank you for your time and any assistance you can provide.
Best regards,
