GuestI’m trying to trace the MAUGHAN side of my family tree and got back as far as Edward Maughan born 1775 in Havdon Bridge. as fa r as I can tell the latest Maughan born there was Joseph born 1845 and his brother John Lee born 1847. they came to America in 1850’s first to Tennessee, then to Colorado(Jefferson County).
I would like to find out more about them prior to 1775.Traced NEWTON side of family back to mid 1600’s in Cornwall, STORR family back to 1776 in Fulstow, Lincolnshire. REED family back to 1759 in Massachusetts, and BRIGGS family only back to 1792 in Massachusetts.
Thank you in advance for any information/help you can give me.
Sincerely ,
Ruthann Storr

KeymasterHello Ruthann, It might help you to look at http://www.haydon-news.co.uk/, which is a Newsletter for Haydon Bridge, and contains many references to Haydon Bridge families. You can email the editor, and ask for your questions to be included in a future issue.
The North East Inheritance database has several Maughan Wills from Haydon Bridge: http://familyrecords.dur.ac.uk/nei/data/neisearch.php
You could also subscribe to one of the Rootsweb Mailing Lists (free), I would suggest Northumbria: https://mailinglists.rootsweb.com/listindexes/details?list_name=northumbria
I hope some of the above might help.
Kind regards, Yvonne Purdy

GuestHi there
I am now Norman but was Maughan. My Mam and Dad (Sheila and Patrick were from Wallsend, Tyne and Wear and moved to Hexham, near Haydon Bridge about 25 years ago. I know we did the family tree and know that some Maughan’s had moved to Hexham in the 1800’s however, i am 52 years old and my mam is living in Haumshaugh, Hexham but my dad passed away years ago, there is only one of his siblings alive but she has dementia now.
My nana and grandad, lived in Monmouth Gardens, Wallsend, I know my grandad had a brother and I think a sister. There be no connection at all here, however just to let you know. I am sure my grandad’s brother was called Joseph
Thank you and best regards
