My birth surname is Milburn. I have been told the family origins were Border Rievers who liced near Hexham for possibly centuries. I would like to know if there was a specific location/farm/building associated with the Milburbs that I research further and maybe visit in a future trip to the borderlands. Any books/articles that might touch on this subject would be greatly appreciated. Or, if there is a better person/organization I might contact, I would greatly appreciate the information and help. Thanks. John (Milburn) Havens

Milburn is still a fairly common name in the greater Hexham area although, historically, the Milburns were based further north along the North Tyne valley nearer the border with Scotland. It would be worth contacting Hexham’s Old Gaol Museum which has a collection of documents relating to the reivers https://museumsnorthumberland.org.uk/hexham-old-gaol and the Bellingham Heritage Centre who are much closer to your ancestral lands and have an impressive archive of their own https://bellingham-heritage.org.uk/contact.html

Thanks so much for your help. Knowing the region of their ancestral lands is a big help! Thanks again, John.
