A member asked about the mouldings/carvings on a Fore Street shop.
Mark replied: The carvings on what was originally Gibson’s chemist shop was undertaken by Josephus Ceulemans. As Yvonne has mentioned, he was a Belgian refugee during WW1. He also reconstructed the font cover in the abbey. Further information about Ceulemans can be found in our publication Hexham Lives – available from the Society’s online shop if you don’t already have a copy!
