Looking for any information regarding my 3xGreatGrandfather William English born in Hexham 1783 possible parents John English and Mary Wilson, possible siblings Thomas George Ann Margaret John
Family legend has the English family had Scottish heritage.
Any information would be gratefully appreciated as the family are proving to be a brick wall
Thank you in advance

From the Parish burials:
English, Ann Widow 81 Brookside Cottage 21 Apr 1903
English, Georgina Daughter of Ann English, Widow 19 Dunwoodie Terrace 19 Jul 1884
English, Hannah Widow 85 Hall Stile Bank 2 Nov 1882
English, Margaret Widow 87 Hexham 20 Jun 1865
English, Thomas Locomotive foreman 60 Reedsmouth 27 May 1882
English, William Son of Mary Ann English 2 Hexham 12 May 1862
English, William Labourer 82 Hexham Workhouse 12 Dec 1862

Interestingly, there appears to have been a Catholic branch of the family, as the Catholic burials list also includes a couple of them.
Pigot’s directory of 1822 lists an Abraham English, boot & shoe maker of Hencoates, whilst Bulmer’s directory of 1866 lists Mrs Ann English of Cockshaw
