Hi there, I am undertaking some research on the Viking incursions into Northumbria in the second half of the 9th century and have come across the following reference in the Historia de Sancto Cuthberto:
“Then Halfdan, king of the Danes, entered the Tyne and sailed as far as Wircesforda”
Does anyone know where this is? I appreciate this might be nothing to do with Hexham but as a critical Anglo-Saxon place at the time I thought this forum might be a good place to start. Thanks for any help.
