The clue photo (on the left above or first image) is of the stone capping a pillar outside the Station Inn on Station Road in Hexham. It is at the end of what is now called Hallorchard Road Path, running across the edge of Wentworth playing fields and car park to Wentworth Place.

The second image shows the pillar, and the plethora of posts in this area. The final image shows the same view in 1978. Has the capstone been rotated by 90 degrees over the years?

Other images are available in the Station Road gallery.
